Edinburgh has a lot to offer including the Edinburgh Festival and Military Tattoo which is a mix of theatre, dance and events for all the family, also the castle, the zoo, the underground city, ghost walks, excellent dining and lots of Bars. If your looking for more out doors activities and breathtaking scenery I would suggest heading over to the West Coast starting with Stirling with visitor attractions such as The Wallace Monument, Stirling Castle and The Blair Drummond Safari Park. Slightly north of that is a small town called Crieff very picturesque and has its own Whisky Distillery, Pottery and Crystal makers which do tours daily. Heading further north to Glen Coe and its visitor centre. Fort William a small tradional Scottish town which is nestled underneath Ben Nevis the highest Munroe in Britain. Aviemore and the Cairngorms famous for out door activies including skiing, mountain biking, hill walking and water sports.
