elections are next year, everyone over 18 can vote, but the elections are always rigged and there is no point of going to vote. Although on paper, the country is called democratic, it is nowhere close to it. Well, considering that elections are bought these days by US corporations (after a Supreme Court decision that allowed Corporations to fund candidates), our system is also very corrupt. This year, 2012, is what some people are calling the "return to Jim Crow", which was the oppressive system that was in place for 60 years that stripped Black Americans of their right to vote. This is due to states that have passed requirements for people to vote, something completely unconstitutional.

Can people dissent in Tajik.? Can people openly express their opinions about he government? That is one thing I really value about the US, that at least people can talk about the corruption openly in public and not be imprisoned for it.

IS there any way to hold the government accountable? Citizen action groups?
