It is a cultural thing, remember that the cultural divide between Kenyans from the coast and inland kenyans is significant. As kings might have experienced, locals who have lived in or near the coast have grown up accustomed to shrimp and other forms of seafood. But Most Kenyans from the rural area do not travel to the coast for recreation, and they also rarely try new delicacies. So given the fact that not too many Kenyans know of shrimp, i think it would be safe to say that they would be reluctant to try it.
