Depends on what type of work you are looking for.

I think it depends on a couple of things. First, it depends on where you live. For example, cities like Detroit that depended on the automobile industry have suffered a major economic recession. Thousands of people lost their jobs, houses are in foreclosure, and the city is losing residents. You can now buy a house in Detroit for almost $0. So, in places like Detroit - it's almost impossible to find a job.

Secondly, it depends on the type of job. Jobs in construction and other manual / low skill jobs are quite hard to find. Also, even in technology, if you are just an average worker with average skills, then yes it can be hard to find a job. However, if you are highly skilled in the technology sector and you live somewhere like Silicon Valley or Seattle for example, then it's quite easy to find a well paying job - I'm talking one that pays at least $150,000 per year...

How about Poland?

From my perspective things are actually pretty difficult. I do think it depends on who you ask. For people who have advanced educational degrees and pretty specific areas of specialization, the overall unemployment rate is only about 6%, which is not far above our long-term averages. But if you're not in that category - and most of us are in that category - the overall unemployment rate is something like 12%, and something like 18% in some of the worst areas. I think national morale is really difficult as a result of all of this, and I'm not sure how it gets better. I would be interested to know if anyone answers differently!

Unemployment is still high - over eight percent I think. But in the technology sector things are getting better (if you work in software for example). But industries like manufacturing are in bad shape.
