Yes, I think we do. the fact that exchange rates are constant have proven to be very helpful, the fact that other EU countries have been stable (until now) and been buying German goods has certainly helped the German economy and its low unemployment rate.
Keeping in mind that until a few years ago Germany was record holder in exports and has only recently been topped by China, a common currency was a tremendous boon to its economy.
On a more personal note: it is historically frowned upon for Germans to show any patriotic feelings, except for perhaps sporting events, so a more expansive construct to focus those feelings on would certainly help.
