I am planning a trip th USA what state to you recommend I visit and why?
Great! The answer completely depends on what you want to do. If you would like to see Sun and Sand, go to Florida. Many people will recommend California, but the water is much colder; you should go to Miami.
If you want to experience American History, then Virginia and Washington DC. If you want to experience the American crazy-big city, then go to New York. Skiing and outdoorsy? Go to Washington State or Colorado. Or, if you want to experience rich culture and incredibly unhealthy food, head to Louisiana.
Hope this helps!
For sure Washington State - lots of mountains, water, restaurants, and good friendly people.
Well it depends what interests you! But if you're coming in summertime, I'm pretty partial to the Pacific Northwest. The central Oregon coast is amazing, as are the volcanoes of Washington and Oregon - Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mt St Helens, etc. Also the Redwoods of Northern California are a must see.
The answer would obviously depend on how many days you have on hand, but my pick is California. It's got a lot of diversity between the big cities (SF, LA, SD), beaches, mountains, vineyards and national parks. You can find some of best skiing and outdoor activities in California. With enough time, you could even escape to Hawaii :)
The state of Washington is spectacular with two mountain ranges and fantastic sailing!
Come to the western part of Washington State!! Seattle is one of the most beautiful places on earth!! There is water, mountains, islands, etc... to explore within easy day trips.
Hi!
Congrats on your decision to make a trip to the US. There are quite a few great states to visit. I live in WA state and of course, would highly recommend it. The summer (July, August) is the best time to visit. Seattle is a hip, cool city with lots to see. There are plenty of great hiking spots, parks, kayaking, beautiful beaches (although you can't swim in the water) and plenty of wildlife to see (whales, seals, eagles, deer, bears....). There are great restaurants and some decent nightlife. Places to visit include: Mt. Rainier, Seattle downtown including the PIke Place Market, Ballard, Freemont, Alki Beach, the Olympic Peninsula. You can also take a short drive (2.5hrs) up to Canada to visit Vancouver. I would recommend getting a book about Seattle to give you some ideas.
California is also great, although some areas of the state are not that great. Los Angeles is ok just to say you've been but it's quite dirty actually and not very nice. Catalina, Monterrey, La Jolla (San Diego area), Santa Barbara...this areas are much nicer. San Francisco is worth a visit as well.
New York City is fun, but only for a few days. Miami is dirty and other than Miami Beach, there is not much to see.
South Carolina beaches are beautiful...long, sandy, warm from May through September/October. There are plenty of historical sites to visit and the history is deep.
Washington, D.C. is fun and filled with lots of history if you are looking for museums to visit and monuments.
Again, for outdoor fun and good food and beautiful scenery, Washington and California are your best bets.
I hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!
What do you hope to do while in the U.S.? Spend time outdoors going hiking? Experience the culture? See historical locations (such as we have)? Give me a sense of what you're looking for and I'll be happy to offer a recommendation.
I am from the Seattle area of Washington state but have traveled to every state in the country. Washington is very beautiful, with mountains, salt water, desert in the eastern half of the state, and opportunities for a variety of activities, whether in the city or more nature-oriented. The weather is mild, particularly starting in May, and there are many beautiful flowers at this time of year.
That's really difficult to answer. It's like me asking "What country should I visit in Europe?" It depends on what your interests are. Cities? New York with potential side trips to Boston and Washington DC. Beaches? Florida, Puerto Rico or Hawaii. Nature? California or Colorado. Old south w/ beaches? South Carolina. Shopping? New York, Illinois (Chicago) or Texas. And so forth. It also depends on the amount of time you have. 1 week or less and you should pick one. 2 weeks or more and you can visit several. What are you interested in doing while you are here?
If you've never seen it, I believe the Grand Canyon to be a truly jaw dropping, awe inspiring sight - so Arizona comes to mind. For a truly unique city experience, I recommend New Orleans Louisiana or San Francisco California. Best of luck!
It depends what kind of activities you like. However, coming from U.k. I would imagine you would not like to be on a too long flight so I would recommend East Coast: New York, Washington D.C., and Boston which should be doable within 10 days of vacation on the East Coast.
What coast are you going to? Both coasts are very different
There are really a lot of factors. My first response was going to be New York (NYC particularly), because it's a great city to visit. There's a nearly infinite range of choices when it comes to activities, restaurants, etc. There's pretty much something for everyone, no matter what their interests or budget. Most US cities will be very difficult to see much of if you don't rent a car, but in New York City, you'd actually be better off without one. Public transportation is quite easy to use, and most of the places you'd want to see in Manhattan are close enough that you can go from one to another on foot. You can also get a day pass with a hop-on hop-off bus tour, which is a great way to pick and choose which of the attractions you'd like to see, and how long you'd like to stay at each one.
Like I said, though, there are a lot of reasons why you might prefer to go somewhere else. For example: When will you be travelling? Do you dislike extremely cold or hot weather? Places like New York may be quite cold even in the spring, so you may prefer Florida or Southern California. On the other hand, I feel that Florida is quite unbearable in the summer, so that's something to take into consideration.
What sort of activities do you prefer? New York is great is you like Metropolitan areas, but if you're interested in a more scenic trip, you might enjoy popular attractions such as Yosemite National Park or the Grand Canyon. If you'd rather lounge on the beach, Florida and California are always popular choices. I'm guessing you were only asking about the continental US, but I would be remiss to leave out Hawaii.
Of course, being from the Pacific Northwest myself, I can't help but recommend it. Seattle and Portland are both lovely. Both cities have large international communities and prevalent indie culture. The Northwest is a great place for natural, local, artisan foods. I must warn you, it rains here about 9 months of the year, but June is just delightful.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and enjoy your trip!
How long will you be in the states? I would see NY, Vegas and Seattle. Three cities that will give you a wide range of activities and enviorments. Each state is known for something different so it all depends on what you are into. Seattle is big on food, coffee and has a great dancing scene. Plus Seattle has every type of geo you could ask for. Ocean, MT., city and country. Vegas is so busy and full of energy, the weather is warm and the lights are beautiful. NYC, the city that never sleeps, they have great diving off the coast and who can beat all the shows and culture.
