To those outside the United States, it seems like the outcome of the Fiscal Cliff negotiations are absolutely unpredictable and that anything is possible at this point. Do people inside the United States feel the same way? What is the most likely outcome here? Are people in Europe worried about this?

I see that this question is directed to the US, but I wanted to comment that this issue definitely makes the news around here, although I'm not sure that most people understand what it's all about. Some explanation from the US side would be great.
