Ernie Salcido on Dually, an Albuquerque, New Mexico mounted policeman.
No kidding? Are there lots of policemen in the States on horseback? Are they all over the country or in just one area?
Mounted policemen are most common in large cities where there is a need for crowd control while maintaining friendly relations with the public. One mounted policeman told me that their horses are valuable when crowds of drunkards leave bars at closing time. If a drunkard attacks a policeman who is on foot, the other drunkards cheer for the policeman. But if a drunkard attacks a horse, the other drunkards cheer for the horse.
