Even though it is a relief that Romney did not win the election, does Obama really have what it takes to improve America's economic situation? I am hoping he can, but I have some serious doubts.

Well Adam the American people now have another 4years to find out.I am glad Romney did not win we probably would have ended up with WW3 the guy is a fruitcake. All i can say is the American people are lucky having Obama. What have we got?David Cameron and Ed Milliband we are screwded either way. Some Tories would have welcomed a Republican leader with the sort of debt cutting programme they want for Britain. Many Tories would have loved to have seen the back of the most socialist President in US history as traditionally Tories sympathise with Republican leaders. But i am sure the majority are glad Obama has been re-elected.

Adam, here is the case for believing. 1) He's been in office for four years and therefore will not be surprised by what he's up against. 2) Most of what needs to be done has already been prescribed by bi-partisan commissions, and what's left is a question of political will versus expediency. 3) For all the trouble that people give him, John Boehner is not impossible to work with; see his press releases from today. 4) Obama does not have to worry about winning another election so might have more flexibility to do what needs to be done. 5) There is a growing amount of sentiment in the public that something simply has to be done.

I think there's also an argument to be made that the top officials in the land can only do so much to improve the economy directly. But as to those direct improvements, I think that Obama can and will do well. I just hope that more thought and money are given to the longer term solutions like our public school system, and investments in science.

Maybe with a senate that works with him to help America, instead of spending all its time blocking attempts to make things better. #thepartyofno
