The NYC Marathon is canceled because of Hurricane Sandy-- what do you guys think about that?
I suppose sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. Feel bad for everyone who trained for it, though - getting ready for a marathon is no joke.
I get the powerful financial impact doing the marathon would have had on NY, i.e.how good it would have been for thousands of businesses that are in need. For me this is even a stronger reason to do it than to lift the city emotionally - which is a good reason as well. But, in this case, I think it's the right call to cancel it. There are simply too many in great need and too much suffering requiring immediate attention to go on with the marathon. I can see why the mayor initially wanted to go ahead with it. In my opinion he made the right call to cancel today.
I agree with "socialimpact" that canceling the marathon was the correct thing to do, as sad as this is for everyone concerned.
