I'm using Harnu in a presentation later today on globalization. What's special about where you're from? I'd love it if someone from each continent could comment!
Hi. I think the special thing about Libya, which is where I come from, is that the state is being rebuilt from scratch. People here don't know what democracy means. Actually, the very first elections since 42 years were held last July. However, I think young people like me (I'm seventeen) have a great opportunity to make a change in the nation and help people change their old, ignorant perspectives.
I am from #Scotland i would say the special things about Scotland for me are an overwhelming abundance of natural beauty, hundreds of castles that stand proud from its long turbulent past and also how it embraces enterprise. Also the culture which in my opinion is very vibrent and probably one of the best in the world. I love the fact that you can just jump in the car and drive not very far and end up in a beautiful location i live 1hr from Edinburgh which is great for shopping and a great night out i also live 20 mins from St Andrews another great little town which is most famous for its golf course. Everything you need is basically right on your doorstep. But the most special thing is derby day when the two local football teams who's grounds are directly opposite one another play against each other what a day it is, your best friend could soon become an enemy for the day depending on which team wins. And last but not least #Scotland would not be complete without mentioning its #music some amazing musicians have came out of Scotland and a lot of new up and coming bands are emerging. Scottish Culture Simply the Best! Lang may yer lum reek.
The presentation went great! Thanks for the feedback! I would have never thought I'd get input from people all over the world.
ryan1 Scotland sounds beautiful!
AsemMahmod I love that you're thinking about democracy and the future! I'm just 19 myself so I know what it's like to start thinking of all the possibilities the future holds. I'd love to hear what you're thinking and what kinds of ideas are turning around in your head.
Well hey - BrewCity - thanks for using Harnu as a part of your presentation today! As one of the founders, I'm loving the idea that people are telling others about our service. We will only be as vibrant a community as our members make us; thanks for your advocacy.
Yo soy de México :D
I am from Australia and we are special because as a whole, we are an amalgamation of european and asian cultures + US media influence, pasted on top of a british colonial attitude. Which means that the elderly are in many ways more often than not, out of sync with the youth...AND we think it's fun to convince people we ride around in Kangaroos and the like as Australian's figure, it's harmless fun and surely no one can believe that, kangaroos aren't big enough to carry humans! A child maybe, but I wouldn't want to shove my baby inside the pouch of a dangerous animal.
@James, don't forget about the drop bears! When I was in Australia some of my Aussie friends convinced me that I had to always watch out for drop bears. I believed it for a little while, haha
@Melissa, yeah but some Aussies fall for that one too :P Was camping with some people from school and we had girl believing that the signs we were following on the trail were markers to each drop bear nest.
Akron, Ohio was known for years as the "Rubber Capital of the World" because Goodyear and Firestone both had world headquarters here. Migrants from all over came to Akron during the mid-1900's to work in the booming tire business. There was a lot of money made by the leaders of this industry, like F.A.Seiberling. Here's a great website to see their home. As you can see, they were very, very rich. http://seiberlingvisualhistory.org/Stan_Hywet/
Do you know anything about phones?, i mean, instaling adroid to omnia ii
@BrewCity, this post is a couple of months old but Europe as a continent is still missing. IMO, Europe is diverse in culture, languages and countries (sometimes also a lot of quarrelling ;)) but still there is this feeling of belonging together, of being European. For me it is always different whenever I travel to another content, when I come back to Europe in a country different to my home country I still feel at home. Europe/ European Union is also about free travelling, no country borders and a having a single currency and hopefully about solidarity which is needed now during this Eurozone crisis.
