You gonna love Greece Chris , specially if u like the sun , the sea . Greece has over than 1400 islands and so many sights as Acropolis and the National Museum of Athens one of the most greatest museums in the whole Europe .

Antonis - what do you mean by "Athens is a mess?" Would love to know more about what's going on there right now.

I think antonis means that November and December are the months that riots are expected and specifically 17th of November 17th and 6th of December, while various protests and strikes take place every few days or so. However in my opinion if someone stays clear of the above dates, will not have any problem visiting Athens.

Wow. I suppose that, in the United States, we are aware of unrest in Greece. But I don't think we hear about rioting in Athens. What happens during a riot?

clashes between the police and protestors usually, burned cars, damages to shops etc, concentrated in Syntagma square and the area around, (obviously not talking about generl riots such as those in egypt or elsewhere...), but in any case you can't move around the city then, as you can't move in many cases due to public transport strikes.

Wow. No kidding? @chrisgrissom - I don't know if I would recommend you avoiding the riots or making sure you were there to witness them!
