Honestly, most people in the US (including myself) don't know anything at all about Zimbabwean food. For the most part, if an American has any experience with African food at all, it's probably with Ethiopian food (injera and wat, mostly). In moderate-to-large cities or college towns in the US, you'll often find Ethiopian restaurants. I've been to a number of Ethiopian restaurants and one Somali restaurant, but I've never had the opportunity to try Zimbabwean food, and I know nothing about it. I'd love to give it a try, though!

It seems the Ethiopia has done a great job in sharing their food around the world. Are there large communities of Ethiopians in the US? I know that with most African communities you can find the cuisine in countries they live. It is usually through knowing people in those communities though that you get to know where the food is :) If we find a Zimbabwean cooking out there we'll give you a shout. Any Zimbos out there cooking please give ErWenn a shout :)

I love Ethiopian food! My partner and I actually have an on-going quest to find the best Ethiopian food in Seatttle. There are 5 restaurants right in our neighborhood. We even have gluten-free injera for people with wheat allergies. Wherever there is a large Ethiopian community in the US, you will find delicious food. Seattle has a thriving Ethiopian community. One restaurant near our place also has the best cup of coffee in Seattle as well, as Ethiopia being the birthplace of coffee of course coffee is the best! Eating with your hands is always wonderful!

Hi Mali, We've heard that Seattle is a great food spot. On you search for Ethiopian food have you ever come across any other types of African restaurants? Have you ever tried making any of the Ethiopian food yourself. We would really like to hear more about experiences with Ethiopian and African food. Gluten- free is a plus, a lot of African cuisine is gluten free.

Hi Fudu - I just ate Senagalese food for the first time on Friday. It was amazing - we had what we were told was the national dish, which was basically tilapia with rice and root vegetables. I understand Senagalese restaurants are popular on the east coast the United States (New York, Washington DC), but haven't really made it out west yet. Hopefully that will change.

Also drank juice made from the baobob tree. Very sweet, and very good.

Hi Paul,

Glad you enjoyed the Senegalese food. It would be great to know more about your food experiences. What did you think of the baobab fruit drink? We also have it here in Zimbabwe. I would be great if you could join our conversation on Facebook (fudu) and Twitter @FuduZ and take a look at our website http://www.fudunow.com/

Thanks

I have traveled in Zim from Zambia to do leadership training in Kariba. I have also been to Victoria Falls on both sides of the bridge; Zambia and Zimbabwe. I love the food of both countries although goat meat was not all that tasty in Malawi. ZimZamMan
