Stories of Chinese buying up vast tracts of land in Africa are very common these days. I'm curious to hear from folks in Africa how you feel about the large amount of Chinese investment in various African nations? It seems like the investment mostly centers around mining raw materials and even food production.

This comes at a time when scientists are telling us we won't have enough capacity to feed the global population in the near future (see the attached Guardian article).

It seems like African governments are in a difficult position. On one hand, the Chinese are offering money right now which can be put to good use but in the medium term, by selling off its own land to Chinese food producers and mining companies (which is basically the Chinese government), are those same African governments not putting their nation's future in jeopardy?
